ArtBabble was conceived and built in 2009 by a cross-departmental team at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. The website is intended to showcase art video content in high-quality format from a variety of sources and perspectives.
Since its initial launch, ArtBabble has grown considerably. In 2013, it seemed only fitting to give the site and its visual identity a facelift given the ever-growing nature of its content and partner reach.
After a six month redesign process and one crazy night of implementation, the IMA Lab launched a completely redesigned ArtBabble. The original site launched with seven partners and approximately 200 videos. The site now boasts 54 partners from five countries, including art museums, university museums, galleries, and other cultural institutions with nearly 3,000 art-related videos.
From the start of the redesign process, the main goal was to create a design that had room to grow. We designed for the site to evolve in the same manner that it had over the previous three years. Another goal was to design partner pages and artist pages with the capacity to function as stand-alone pages. For some institutions, their ArtBabble Channel is their main hub for video content.
The new, responsive design provides an optimal viewing experience for users no matter what device they’re on. Videos now play through players that are HTML5 compatible, making the video content accessible on desktops, tablets and mobile devices.Launch Site
