As part of the Matisse, Life in Color exhibition at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, IMA Lab designed two in-gallery TourML driven iPad applications to provide better context to the works on display.
What We Did
The first app features images, text, and video content and is broken down into four sections: Timeline, Process, Quotes, and Connections. The app highlights some of the key events in Matisse’s career as well as his artistic processes. In addition, users have access to quotes from Matisse, where he speaks about composition, color, style, sculpture, drawing, and cutouts. Finally, the app features a connections section that includes information on Matisse's relationships with fellow artists.
The second app features short videos about Etta and Claribel Cone and their extraordinary collection of his work, as well as Matisse’s relationships with the Cone sisters and other collectors of his work.
